I'm Susan Stirling, a trauma-sensitive certified coach. My work is rooted in lived experience, applied neuroscience, and the quiet courage it takes to heal—especially in the second half of life.

I didn't set out to reinvent my life. I simply followed the unraveling of my own story through childhood trauma, life-altering falls, and the surprising beauty of getting back up again.

Along the way, I discovered that healing isn't about becoming someone new. It's about reclaiming who you've always been beneath the survival strategies.

While reorganizing my office yesterday, I came across a photo of my iris taken last summer.

The assessment read:
✨ Theme: Songbird
✨ Credo: I Create
✨ Season: Summer
✨ Position: Externalization

It also described me as adaptable, delicate, creative, intuitive, and expressive. How True. Andrew and I both laughed out loud when we read these words.

This week's reflection grew out of reading three very different memoirs by women whose journeys moved from trauma toward a spirituality that felt authentic and true for their own lives. While each story was unique, I found a common thread woven through them all: a movement away from fear and toward love.

It's also a reflection on what happens when old narratives are stirred, how our nervous systems continue to heal, and why not every question needs to be answered right away.

I hope it offers you a gentle invitation to keep discovering what grounded spirituality means for your own life.

On the weekend I met “The Big Tree.”

Over 800 years old. Seventy-six metres tall. Still standing.

It carries an ancient feeling being the oldest tree in Cathedral Grove on the Island.

The stories it could tell…it was over 300 years old when Christopher Columbus arrived in North America in 1492.

Whatever season you’re in today, don’t underestimate what staying rooted can accomplish.
